I grew up in a family of entrepreneurs. Dad was a publisher, real estate developer and owned a number of retail businesses. Mom spent over 25 years in the retail gift business – and is a gifted saleswoman who knows just how to reach people and sell them what they want when they want it.
I am a Syracuse Orangeman and although our football and basketball teams have had their ups and downs over the years – the management program has gotten stronger and stronger. I attended the Whitman School of Management where I majored in Finance and Managerial Statistics, served as a resident advisor, published the SGA newspaper among other things. Then it was on to The American Unviersity, Washington College of Law in Washington, D.C. Another great school with excellent people. I was a Note & Comment Editor for the International Law Review (then the Journal of International Law and Policy) and worked for 2 years at the small firm of Clarke & Alkon, PA where I began learning the ins and outs of litigation and learned how to write appellate briefs. My first one was on the right to a jury trial in a shareholder derivative action – which we actually won in a case of first impression in Maryland – very fun!
I came to Connecticut and began my career as a lawyer in general practice with Tyler, Cooper & Alcorn where I focused on real estate, commercial transactions, litigation and bankruptcy. After 4 years I joined a third party logistics firm (USCO Logistics) and over the next 13 years he moved from Corporate Counsel to managing business operations as the Global Vice President of Aftermarket Management for Kuehne + Nagel.
I am proud to have been recognized in 2002 as a New Leader of the Law by the Connecticut Law Tribune for overall achievement in the first 10 years of mylegal career. I have served on a variety of associations and boards, including as Chair of the Connecticut Bar Association – Young Lawyer’s Section.I have has a special focus on attorneys because I spent 15 years practicing law with a firm, as in-house counsel and as a leader of legal associations. My experience as a business executive, public speaker and entrepreneurial educator helps me teach people how to improve their own business skills, their relationships with clients and firm operations.
My business experience includes business development, operations, finance, human resources, customer service, information technology, marketing & sales, product development, inventory control, real estate, procurement, supply chain and of course legal affairs.
My industry experience includes logistics service and supply chain, medical equipment, high technology, aviation, industrial, manufacturing and non-profit organizations.
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Finance and a Bachelor of Science in Managerial Statistics from The Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University and my Juris Doctor cum laude from The American University, Washington College of Law where I was an editor of the International Law Review.
In my spare time I love being behind the microphone. I am a sports PA announcer for football, basketball and lacrosse for the Cheshire Rams. I am also the voice of the Post University Eagles Football Team (www.posteagles.com). People call me DJ Doug Brown because of my bringing this unique mixing approach to sports and community functions.
